The day I met Leo Sayer......

Hello folks! It’s been a while but here is the latest news from down under........
We have been out and about recently with various groups of friends. Bob has befriended Matt the Handyman from work and we met up with him at the local Tapas Bar for their Open Mic night a couple of weeks ago. The bar has a perfectly sized deck for a band and a few tables so we snuggled ourselves under the outdoor heater, grabbed a glass of wine and waited to hear what the local talent had to offer. They were pretty damn good! One band was pretty young and obviously quite nervous for their first gig but once they got warmed up, they were spilling out the tunes. Another band were golden oldies doing Tina Turner and Pink Floyd covers – obviously knew what they were doing. The local tattoo artist, Gina, was absolutely amazing. I could have listened to her all night! The Open Mic night is a regular thing every 6 weeks or so, think we will definitely be back, so great to have that kind of thing 2 minutes from our house!
I met Bob’s work colleagues a few weeks ago at a house party which was meant to be a tame gathering for a few nibbles and a wee beer or so, but turned into a rather messy affair! 4 tequila shots later and everyone was up dancing, including the dog. I was trying to behave myself as I had netball the next day, so I only managed one tequila thank goodness. Let’s just say, Bob didn’t surface until 12 noon the next day and decided he needed a whole tub of Pringles for breakfast. He made a remarkable recovery after that! Must remember that for a hangover cure in the future...Lovely people, think we will need to reciprocate and invite them round to ours.
Bob and I were set up on a couples date! A guy Bob used to work with is married to an Occupational Therapist who works for the local Scope business. There is a speech therapist who works there too, an English bloke called Joe who has recently moved to Warragul from NZ with his Kiwi fiancĂ©e and winemaker Lauren. Bob’s old work colleague and his Mrs decided that we would be a good friend match and so organised for us to meet at their house for curry. We weren’t sure what to expect but actually they were very lovely! Lots in common. It turns out they aren’t too impressed with the local night life in Warragul so I’m sure we’ll be having a few get togethers to liven things up. They used to be in a Curry Club in NZ and we were thinking we should set one up here! Brilliant.
Bob has been in the Gold Coast for the past 3 days with Alan and Matthew on his Stag Do Part 1. It sounds like quite an adventure – in the words of Bob this morning – “if you exaggerated the stories just a little, it could be a sequel to The Hangover”. As far as I’m aware, Bob was Edward Ciderhands for the evening, a limo was hired, there was a story about jumping off a bridge into shark infested waters, winning $500 on the roulette table (number 7 will forever be the lucky number I think!), tequila for breakfast and I seem to remember him mentioning something about a monkey.....I’m sure I’ll find out most of the details on his return to Melbourne. A few late nights and sharing a room with a tonsillitis infected friend will probably end with a wabbit looking fiancĂ© but it sure sounds like he had a brilliant time. At least he wasn’t tied to a lamppost – hurrah!
I’ve had a rather busy weekend myself – the girls from work decided to go for a curry on Friday night to the Tandoori place round the corner from the clinic. I’d invited our new blind date friends Joe and Lauren plus a couple of friends who live locally. We just sat down to peruse our menus when I get nudged on the arm by Natalie, who tells me that Leo Sayer is at the desk paying his bill. Yeah right.....oh actually, that IS Leo Sayer!!! Eh? Very bizarre. Really wanted to start singing “You make me feel like dancing” but thought that might have been a bit lame, and not particularly original. We were all trying to decide who would be the lucky victim to go up and get his photo taken with him but he walked out before we even had the chance to stand up. He did say hello, and tapped Rachel on the head – what a claim to fame! What the heck is he doing in Warragul!?!?!?! Lauren wasn’t best pleased as he ate the last Lamb Kofta......rubbish
Saturday was our match against Nilma Darnum. It should’ve been easy but we found ourselves down by 10 goals at half time. A miraculous recovery in the third quarter narrowed our gap to 4 goals and it was neck and neck at 46-46 in the dying seconds. I had a shot to win.......and MISSED! Argh. That missed goal will haunt me forever. A couple of skint knees, a massively skint elbow and a mild case of whiplash after that game left me thinking that I definitely deserved a bath! But no time – quick turnaround before heading to the Courthouse Bar for some drinkies and dinner. We managed to pop down to the Dusties footie rooms for Happy Hour which involved a few Smirnoff Ices (haven’t had one for years!) and a ridiculously sweet Muscato Sunrise cocktail thing. Eurgh. Back to the Courthouse for some general malarkey and silliness before heading home.
Bob is enjoying his squash at the moment – his team, the Magpies, are currently top of the table. Think he enjoys the after match banter and Party Pies too, and he’s been invited to join a Wine Club by the local competition – Mr Chiropractor! He was picking Lauren’s brain about Italian wines so he’s got a few bits of information up his sleeve now for the upcoming Italian wine night. “hmmm, the palate doesn’t quite match the nose” !
Think that’s most of the news. Work is busy as always, wedding plans coming along nicely and it’s only 8 weeks or so until we come home – YAY! Looking forward to seeing you all
Lots of love, Mo and Bob x
