Exams, houses, new additions......

It's been a while!  I can't believe we are nearly into May already and I haven't updated this blog for several months.  Over the past four months, we have had a visit from my mum and dad, been to the Australian Open, had a few days in Melbourne, studied (lots), moved house and found out the brilliant news that we are expecting our first baby!  We have been busy!

Having had some disappointment in the baby department at the end of last year, we were delighted to find out that Baby Barr is due to arrive on 19th October 2013, which I'm sure will be here before we know it.  Recent scans show that everything is going well and that our baby appears to be some ninja kickboxing hyperactive specimen - will be interesting to see what he/she is doing at the 20 week scan!  We are currently 15 weeks as of today which makes the baby the size of an orange.  I can definitely feel my jeans getting a little tighter and I seem to be eating a lot of salt and vinegar crisps and the old cliche pickled onions, who would have thought?!  Bob is still in a bit of a daze about the whole thing - I think it will only become real once I actually get a bump, even better a bump that we can feel moving.  He is super excited though and our friends have been brilliant - we already have a baby monitor and a baby bath from those who no longer need them.  First midwife appointment in two weeks to sort out antenatal classes etc.  Here is the pic from our 8 week scan - a very tiny blob! Better pics will be available in a few weeks hopefully...

Now that the nausea has settled (yippee) and I have a bit more energy, I'm now able to attend pregnancy spin and circuit classes as well as pilates and yoga.  Not quite a sweaty game of netball but it will have to do for the time being! And my lovely sister has sent me an exercise DVD that she didn't quite manage to get out of the wrapper so maybe I'll give that a go as well.  All change on the exercise front....

it was lovely to see my parents at the end of January.  They arrived in Melbourne around the 21st January and we had a few days in the city to visit the Australian Open tennis, visit level 88 on the Eureka Skydeck, bask in the sun in a little beer garden in St Kilda and go to my favourite restaurant Red Spice Road for some banqueting.  The tennis was great, my dad was well chuffed he got to meet a few (old!) celebrities (John Newcombe for one), even managing to pose for a photo.  We also spied Jim Courier but unfortunately didn't manage a photo opportunity.  Bob was rather pleased to have been asked to be 'official time keeper' during a coaching session too.  We had a couple of tickets to the Rod Laver Arena centre court so we all took it in turns to pop in and out.  We all gave Sharapova a miss however, no screeching for us.  A very relaxed day in the sun and mum and I even had a giggle at the free 360 degree ANZ camera, jumping in the air with our massive tennis racquets.  Will try and dig out the picture......

We drove the parents back to our old house in Drouin for a few nights, managing a trip to the infamous golf club raffle (no prizes sadly), a beating at tennis by my dad, lots of cheese and wine and general catching up.  Oh, and a game of lawn bowls where my mum and Bob managed to come away with a victory.  Really don't know what my dad was doing.....I was holding our team together! Haha.  All very lovely.  They were then off to Brisbane to face the cyclone that had decided to hit!  And here they thought they would get the worst weather when in fact, the sun was indeed shining in Melbourne!

I can admit to not having much time to do anything since my mum and dad bid us farewell at the end of January until I sat my physiotherapy exam on 8th March.  I was pretty much stashed away in our study with a nose in a textbook or five for weeks, trying to cram in as much information as possible about things that I don't really have an interest in.  Seriously, I thought simply knowing where the lungs were would be an achievement in cardiorespiratory, never mind having to learn arterial blood gases and the like.  Needless to say, now that the exam is over, I can't remember half the stuff!  Good news however, as I managed to pass with 73% musculoskeletal, 63% neuro and a measly 55% cardiorespiratory (scraped a pass but I'll take it!)  Now, for part II..........Thanks to my workies for drinks and party poppers last night and to Corinna for the $2 shop balloons!!!

Bob has been playing lots of golf recently and now has a handicap of 2.0.  He is aiming for 1 now that his toe is starting to stop throbbing but toe surgery is still due on 14th May.  He received the paperwork today which stated the procedure was for his left foot when indeed it is actually his right that is the problem.  Doesn't exactly fill you with confidence in the surgeon!! He is contemplating wrapping his left toe with tape with the writing 'don't come near this one - it's the other one! although whether he does this or not, we shall see.  Might not be a bad idea.

Bob has also started his Diploma in Management at the local college in Warragul which requires one day per month of class attendance and one assignment per month to be handed in.  The last assignment will be due mid October - hope he gets this in BEFORE the baby arrives or getting that assignment done on time could be a challenge! It seems Bob is still in Masters mode and has gone above and beyond the call of duty for his first assignment.  The rest of his class were astounded when he had used some references in his essay - looks like he can tone it down a little for the rest of the course!

We have both started coaching our junior teams for the season - Bob with his junior badminton team and myself with the U17 D grade juniors for Dusties netball.  They are a great bunch of girls but seem to be overly concerned with their body odour, spraying deodorant every 5 minutes, and of course playing with their hair.  Sometimes we do all learn something though and we have had 2 wins from 4 so far into the season.  Let's hope we can improve on last year's placing of second bottom from 15 teams!

We have now moved from Drouin into our new house in Warragul and we love it.  Much bigger living space with a garage, shed and lovely patio area which gets the sun from morning until about 4pm.  We are in the middle of granny central however and our neighbours are most definitely curtain twitchers! We have met a few of the neighbours already, including 90 year old Olive next door and Robyn who has already given us the lowdown on the rest of the street.  It's a lovely area with a lovely people and very quiet apparently.  We won't disclose what happens at our BBQ's or curry nights or the fact that we are due to have a screaming child living with us just yet!  Apparently we have brought down the average age of the street by about 20 years.  It is very handy though to walk to work in 5 minutes and it means we can walk into town for a pint of milk rather than having to drive everywhere.  And we have air-conditioning!!! and a dishwasher!!! Heaven.

Currently upholstering our table and chairs that we picked up for $50 at a local garage sale.  Bob did a great job of sanding the table and I'm now painting the chairs white and upholstering the chairs with new fabric.  I've never done this before so just winging it, but if the chairs look semi-decent, I'll be pleased!  Here's a sneak preview...

Think that is the main news from down under.  We have Bob's parents coming to visit in July and a trip to Port Douglas to look forward to.  Until then, we shall keep cooking this baby and trying to get as much sleep as possible!!  Missing you all heaps, will definitely update the blog soon, love Mo and Bob xx
